“Building” a colony from the ground up was a great way to learn about life in the Thirteen Original Colonies. The students planned and constructed a typical New England village, the featured city of Philadelphia and a very detailed Southern plantation. They “built” homes, barns, churches, shops sawmills and shipyards. They “planted” crops appropriate to the colony. They used the “natural resources” of the areas to create authentic looking places. Collaboration and cooperation were required and the finished models were fabulous!
